Le Petit Diabolo – The Little Diabolo – Number 208 – from 1907

Produced from 1907
Product number 208
Hand lacquered
Mechanism: clockwork
Height approx. 19,5 cm / 7,6 inches

This very amusing toy has been released in two different versions, one in the version of a girl and the other of a boy, the differences: the girls have long hair and are wearing a dress and the boys have short hair and are wearing shorts.
Between the hands is a piece of narrow wire with a small diabolo, in the diabolo there is a hole in the narrowest part through which the wire sticks so it seems as if the diabolo moves over the wire
After winding up, the arms go up and down next to each other so that the diabolo slides over the wire and thus creates the illusion of the real diabolo game.

At the top of the drawing there is the text: Dédié a M Lépine, Préfect de Police
Translated: Dedicated to M Lépine, Prefect of Police, but why I don’t know, we know that Martin was a very good friend of Mr. Lepine, he was also the organizer of the “Concours de Lépine” the annual toy exhibition of novelties in Paris.
Perhaps Martin honors his friend with this text.
